College Intern Program
The Youth Center works with many dedicated college students who aid in furthering the Youth Center’s mission and serve the children and families of Adams, Cheshire and Savoy. Youth Center has many areas in which we work with college students such as:
- Afterschool Enrichment intern – work with the children/teens in the drop-in center. The Drop-In Intern is an integral member of the Youth Center, Inc. support staff. The main job responsibilities include monitoring traffic in and out of the Youth Center, selling snacks, keeping an eye on equipment, playing games or teaching a skill with the participants. As well as providing clerical/receptionist/janitorial support, and assisting the Enrichment Coordinator and/ or the Executive Director in the completion of his/her duties. The Enrichment intern is also responsible for learning and enforcing the policies of the Youth Center and makes disciplinary referrals to the Executive Director when appropriate.
- Class Outreach: – Intern may come in and facilitate a class or make a presentation to the youth members. Every week the Youth Center, Inc. goes to the local Adams, Cheshire and Savoy Elementary Schools and Focus is on providing educational enrichment based on the School Department’s and individual schools strategic plan and goals. Class Interns have done activities and units in arts & crafts, body image, science, web design, basic computers, cooking, creative writing and sports. Other interns have come in to do one specific presentation targeted to a specific audience or age group, for those that are not interning all semester.
